Commenting on blogs to increase backlinks to your blog is nothing new. People have left comments on blogs for this very reason for, well, just about as long as blogging has been around. Unfortunately, due to bad blogging advice, automated blog commenting software, and leaving the wrong comments on the wrong blogs – leaving comments on blogs to increase backlinks is quickly becoming a dead practice.
Define your blog theme. This is a bit vague, because it shouldn’t be too broad or too narrow. It’s very difficult to outline the borders here, but you can use the number of categories as a rule of thumb. You see, you can’t cover all topics in one blog. So if you’re about to add a new category that is somewhat unrelated, think about it. Maybe it’s just better to start a new blog.
Teenagers were the first large group of people to use blogs. Blogging became a favorite past time between the years of 2000 and 2004. Teenagers still blog, but adults have caught the blogging fever as well.
Start reading some blogs. Do a search in Google for blogs. If you are a chiropractor, search on chiropractic blogs. If you are a graphic designer, search on graphic design blogs. You get the idea. Read what others are doing and writing about. Email them and build your network with these people. Chances are they aren’t your competitors and they might be very willing to help you and perhaps even collaborate with you.
But I always assumed that most bloggers would be like me and have some sort of comment approval policy in place. But then I forget, there are a lot of people running My fitness progress for personal stuff and they simply don’t understand the whole spamming thing. So blog spammers take advantage of the ignorance of these bloggers and blast them with junk comments. And if their blogging software doesn’t use the nofollow tag in links then they just got themselves a link that some search engines (coughMSNcoughYahoo!cough) would record as valuable.
Unlike e-mail that just shows up in someone mailbox, blogs must be accessed by the reader – there are, however, ways to list the blogs one wants to visit regularly.
Don’t let anyone try to tell you that the bottom is falling out of web marketing. The awesome growth and popularity of Blogs shows that they could not be more wrong.
