Mig Welding Basics – Mig Wire Installation

Build a good welding space. Choosing a good space is very important for a successful welding business. Welding is a serious activity and your surroundings should be controlled as much as possible. A good welding shop should be spacious enough that it can store a number of pieces of small and bulky equipment that are necessary for welding. Besides a working space, you’ll also need a specific area for storing materials such as steel and aluminum, as well as welding tables, drill press and saws, and other tools.

So let’s assume that your machine is using a 10 minute time cycle. This means that you can weld for two minutes at full power (20%). Now for the rest of the time which is eight minutes you cannot weld at all, you have to let the machine cool down. This is definitely one thing to look out for when you go to buy a mig China Welding Equipment.

This means that if the brand of wire on the box is (xxxx) they are not the manufacture of it. You need to ask the sales person….ARE YOU THE MANUFACTURER OF THIS WIRE?

For tig welding aluminum, set polarity to A/C, A/c balance to around 7, high frequency to continuous. All other machine settings above are same as for tig welding steel.

The capacitor discharge stud welding is most often used when you have small diameters that need to be fastened to a thinner base metal. The arch stud welding is usually used for the larger diameters that need to be fastened to metals that have a thicker base or that are rougher in texture.

Spray transfer mig welding requires a different shielding gas than what is normally used for short circuit mig welding, ( I will explain short circuit mig later) gas mixtures of 90/10 argon/co2, 95/5 argon/co2, and 98/2 argon/o2 are used for spray transfer mig along with much higher voltage settings.

Safety equipment is also important in welding. Follow all the safety measures to protect your workers and clients. Stock your shop with an ample supply of welding safety gears such as helmets, leather gloves, welding sleeves, boots and aprons. An emergency medical equipment is also essential in case of accidents. Keep one or two fire extinguishers on hand too. The welding area must always be equipped with a fire blanket and a well-stocked first aid kit.

There is much to learn how to mig weld than the above tips, welding positions such as vertical up and overhead require different techniques, as do welding of different metals such as mig welding of aluminum, and stainless steel. However with good instruction and practice this is something anyone can master.
